"Paws" and Applause Go to a Good Cause There was thunderous applause along with woofs and barks at North Shore Animal League America's 3rd Annual DogCatemy Celebrity Gala, at Capitale in New York City, on November 6th. With more than 400 attendees, on both two legs and four, this black-tie event where people rubbed elbows and paws with celebrities and their pets proved to be a thrilling evening filled with fun and entertainment. The media clamored for the best shots as celebrities strolled the Red Carpet at the star-studded charity event. Some of the stars that "pawsed" for the buzzing paparazzi included Beth and Howard Stern, Grammy Award-winning Artist Mýa, Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden, tennis legend Monica Seles and news anchor Jodi Applegate. Unfortunately, Master of Ceremonies Richard Belzer fell ill and was unable to attend. However, TV correspondent Maria Menounos and Howard Stern show Executive Producer Gary Dell' Abate saved the day, taking over hosting the event. DogCatemy Celebrity Gala Crystal Collar Awards were handed out for categories including; Best Dogumentary, Best Musical, Best Pawformance, Best Tail Waggin' Comedy, Best Reel Life Tail and Best in Show. This year also featured an online charity auction that continued for a week after the event was over where proceeds benefitted the dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at the Animal League. One of the highlights of the evening was when the King of all Media, Howard Stern, presented a special Crystal Angel Award to his wife and Animal League friend and spokesperson, Beth Stern. The award recognized her tireless efforts and dedication to the plight of homeless shelter pets. He told the crowd how "Beth was his angel as well as the Animal League's angel" and good naturedly joked that he often has to share some of the time he has to spend with her with the countless animals she helps save through her work for the Animal League. The dog-friendly DogCatemy Celebrity Gala reflects North Shore Animal League America's belief in the special bond that exists between humans and pets. In addition to rescuing, nurturing and adopting more than 20,000 pets each year into loving homes, the Animal League strives to increase public awareness of the importance of adopting shelter pets to save their lives. Thank you to all who participated in this wonderful evening; and thank you for sharing our passion for pets. All proceeds from this event support North Shore Animal League America's mission of rescuing pets throughout the world and placing them in loving homes. |
